Biography

Born in remote Western Australia in 1979. Story has it that he was born on the back seat of a kangaroo infused XC Falcon on the way to the regional hospital from the Emu Proof Fence. Raised in Leonora and later Mukinbudin, Roderick spent his childhood exploring mineshafts, gold prospecting and operating heavy machinery. His art practice centres on the politics of masculinity in regional communities and takes many forms including video, installations, performances painting and drawings. He gained his Bachelor of Arts (Visual Art) from Curtin University in 2006, which incorporated an exchange at the Ecole Nationale Superior d’Art in Dijon, France.

Sprigg has held solo exhibitions France, Indonesia and throughout Australia. He has participated in group exhibitions throughout Australia including the Museum of Contemporary Art- Sydney, Lake Macquarie Art Gallery, Fremantle Arts Centre, Kalgoorlie Arts Centre, Latrobe Regional Art Gallery.

Roderick currently lives and works in the Pilbara, Western Australia.
